Horse slaughter
Why haven't I read anything about a Texas survey that found 72 percent of Texas voters are opposed to the slaughter of horses for human consumption? I've read a few articles in the Star-Telegram about horse slaughter, but none with these statistics. National statistics for 1999 showed 81 percent opposed to horse slaughter for human consumption. Even with those poll results, I wonder why we can't get our U.S. senators from Texas, Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, to become original co-sponsors of HR 857, a bill that would make horse slaughter for human consumption illegal nationally. Antoinette Smith, American Horse Defense Fund, Bridgeport Editor's note: The survey was conducted May 4-6 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research for Blue Horse Charities, a corporation organized by Fasig-Tipton Co. Inc., the country's oldest thoroughbred auction house. |
