Subject: [againstslaughter] Today in Illinois and action alert for help please!

First off everyone worked extremely hard today and deserves our deepest praise and thanks.  Gail called and wanted me to relay that to you and then ask for more effort.  What happened today?

1.  Cavel's state license is in large danger of being pulled, and their federal license is in danger as well.  The director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture admitted in the hearing today that Cavel received their new license in April in error.  They filled out the application stating they had a building, coolers, chillers, etc. when all they had was a burnt down building.  The inspectors went out a few weeks ago when this first started coming to a head and our investigator found out the paperwork was no good.  The Ag Department
was "horrified" to find out there were walls and nothing else.  This is why work has stopped on the building.

2.  The bill will have to go to the Ag Committee, probably Nov 18th will be the next hearing.  We must put the pressure on the committee members to vote in favor of the bill.  Rep. Molaro's office has said everyone's efforts to date have been fantastic but we need to keep it up.

3.  We must get as many Illinois horse people and horse industry/barns as possible to write using letterhead.  If you have none of your own to write or fax with, make some please.  Chris [Heyde] said list yourself as a member of NHPC (National Horse Protection Coalition) so you are under the umbrella.  We need to get in contact with as many horse related people as possible in Illinois to get them to put the word in.  The Ag Committee will be most interested in Illinois residents and their viewpoints, although I'm sure we can all
find a link in our life that ties us to Illinois in our letters, emails and faxes.

4.  Papers are being notified of this as I write this and articles should appear as soon as tomorrow.  Letters to the Chicago papers that have a large circulation are important.  Get that news reinforced that Cavel lied on their applications to the state and the federal agencies, where else have they lied?
