 Horse slaughter

Mr. Johanns

In your position as the head of the USDA I would like to ask you a few questions and would like a response within the next 10 working days for a press release. If you do not answer I will be forced to print these questions out so that the public can ask themselves what you are hiding.

1.   Would you be willing to testify in court that horsemeat is free of chemical/drug residue currently banned in other food animals?

2.   Since the USDA is telling the foreigners that eat horsemeat that it is safe by adding the USDA stamp of approval would you be willing to accept the responsibility for any humans that get sick and/or die from eating tainted horse meat from the U. S.?

3.   Would you be willing to testify in court that the Humane Slaughter Act is being enforced in the equine slaughter houses and that violations are being punished by major fines to force compliance?

4.   If you say that the Humane Slaughter Act is being enforced, then I challenge you and the equine slaughter houses to allow the anti-slaughter movement to install video cameras so that people can see the proof one way or the other. Will you accept this challenge?

5.   Are you willing to accept responsibility for any and all stolen horses that end up at slaughter?

Both myself and the newspapers await your responses to these questions.

Sincerely,

Tom Durfee
