Subject: [Texasalert] ILLINOIS UPDATE (SB1921) ALERT!

Dear Members:

UPDATE ILLINOIS SB1921

Short Version:

SB1921 did not reach the floor for a vote.  Rep. Molaro will be trying again in mid-February.  This gives us time to garner more support.

In the meantime write to the Governor of Illinois asking him to urge the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture to postpone consideration of Cavel’s further application to re-open in DeKalb until SB1921 has been voted on.  Contact information at the bottom of this email and on our website.

Detailed Version:

I have gone through all of the reports I have received from our lobbyists in Illinois , and here in essence is what happened there:

Due to the brevity of their legislative session (only two days) SB1921 never reached the floor for a vote.  We are now looking at mid-February before we have another opportunity of getting it up for a vote.

Rep. Molaro commented that he was delighted with the support we have given him and this Bill, but to “regroup and keep putting the pressure on.”  He also said that we have about 60% of the vote in our favor, but it is “not in the bag” yet.

He made a further observation that no other Bill  has received this kind of attention, and the fact that people called in from all over the country made a big impact there in Springfield .  In other words, they felt the heat!

“Well done” to all of you who took the time and energy to help out, whether you made one phone call or 100.  Hooray for TF4H volunteers!  You always come through.

Note:  One of our lobbyists has promised to put together a list of legislators we need to focus on next time so we do not have such a large group to canvass for support (now that is good news!)

WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP NOW:

Cavel will be using this time well to get their horse butchery up and running as quickly as possible, contrary to their current public relations spin that they are “in no hurry.”

Please phone, write or fax Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich respectfully urging him to use his power and influence to get the Illinois Department of Agriculture not to issue a new license to Cavel until SB1921 has been voted on.  His information is as follows:
