Subject: [againstslaughter] Illinois Horse Slaughter
Ban Legislation
Update on
legislation to ban horse slaughter.
As you are all
aware, Illinois State Rep. Bob Molaro has drafted legislation that will ban
horse slaughter in the State of Illinois.
I have been
working with his office on the bill and wanted to share a couple of things
with everyone. The Illinois legislature will be back in session for
about 6 days in November. This short session is what is called a
"veto" session designed to consider bills that have been vetoed, but
need to be addressed. Rep. Molaro is planning on trying to get the
slaughter bill addressed during this short session, but wanted people to know
it will be tough.
If the bill is
not considered in November, the regular session begins again in January.
The bill will be pushed at this time.
I will have some
links and contact information in an action alert email to follow soon.
We need to duplicate the incredible efforts undertaken in Texas by everyone
down there earlier this year. The public needs to hear how important a
ban on slaughter is - both in Illinois and with the American Horse Slaughter
Prevention Act.
Thanks,
Chris
