Subject: Your story on horse slaughter 3/15/2003 - Bo Derek

I saw your story last night, and your reporter said, "supporters of slaughter say that most of the horses are old and
lame and that stopping horse slaughter in the U.S. is not going to stop people in Europe from eating horsemeat....they will just get it from somewhere else."  I say, "let the Europeans and Asians eat their own horses."

The Belgian and French slaughterers at Beltex in Fort Worth and Dallas Crown in Kaufman WANT everyone to believe that the horses are old, sick, crippled, or crazy.  That is the lie they have been telling for years.  The truth is, the slaughter horses are young, fat, and healthy.  They are picked up at auctions all over the United States by a group of killer-buyers who work for the two slaughter plants.  There are only two slaughter plants in the U.S., and they are both in Texas, operating in violation of Texas law, Texas Agriculture Code Section 149.  A federal lawsuit is pending that should close the plants.

I own property next to Dallas Crown in Kaufman and I have seen the horses waiting for slaughter.  They look like this.
