Subject: Horse Slaughter: Good news, bad news

Dear Horse Lover Friends,

The bad news is that Illinois State Rep Bob Molaro's bill to ban horse slaughter is put on hold....temporarily.  The bill cleared the Illinois House Executive Committee on Tuesday, Nov 18 and was headed for a House floor vote, but the sudden death of DeKalb area representative David Wirsing caused Bob Molaro to pull the bill until January.  See article in Northern Star at
http://www.kaufmanzoning.net/horsemeat/NorthernStar11202003.htm

The good news is that we now have 148 cosponsors for HR 857, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.  Click here for a list of cosponsors  http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:HR00857:@@@P

I'm delighted to report that there are four (4) Texas cosponsors.
Martin Frost, D-Dallas, 6/3/2003
Max Sandlin, D-Marshall, 11/19/2003
Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Dallas, 11/20/2003
Gene Green, D-Houston, 11/21/2003

But wait....there's even MORE good news.  After many hours of work, New Hampshire horse advocate Roberta Stone has published Tiff Bartlett's 8 minute video Blood Country...a Texas Shame on the Internet at http://www.arthuranimations.com/BloodCountry/
Here's the jacket cover for the CD  http://kaufmanzoning.net/horsemeat/BloodCountryjacket.htm

If you have a high speed connection, you'll see the video just fine.  But if you use dial-up, you may need to be patient during periodic downloads.  If all else fails, send me your physical mailing address, and I'll mail you a CD.

Tiff Bartlett is incredibly talented, as I know you will agree after seeing her video.  By the way, she's smart too.  She just passed the Texas Bar exam.
