Goodlatte isn't listening

   to the voters

Rep. Bob Goodlatte should let the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act pass out of the House Committee on Agriculture.

I did a quick Web search of this bill and found that it has more than half of Congress supporting it. This bill needs to become law.

The idea of the Europeans imposing this aspect of their culture upon the United States is sickening.

I've spoken to people who tell me that the horse-slaughter business fell off drastically in the 1990s. The number of horses slaughtered fell from a high of 340,000 in 1990 to fewer than 50,000 in 2000.

Goodlatte's arguments in defense of his stance are pathetic. We didn't have the crisis he describes back then. It's obvious he hasn't done his research.

I've also found out that Goodlatte is actively opposing HR 857. He sent a letter to Congress asking Congress to unite with him in opposing the bill.

What struck me about his letter are the organizations he lists as being opposed. What do cattle and poultry raisers have to do with the horse industry?

This just goes to show that he's more willing to listen to the meat industry than his voting public.
