Subject: EMERGENCY ALERT ON HORSE SLAUGHTER in
ILLINOIS!!!
Dear Friends of SHARK,
Cavel International, the Belgian owned company which is quickly rebuilding a
HORSE SLAUGHTER facility in DeKalb, Illinois has falsified documents on its
license application. As a result of this, the Illinois Department of
Agriculture has wrongly issued Cavel a license to operate. In addition,
the IL Dept. of Agriculture issued the license without properly inspecting the
plant first. The IL Dept. of Agriculture has said that they would look
into revoking Cavel's license, yet it has had several weeks to correct this
error and has failed to do so.
Please CALL, WRITE, FAX AND EMAIL IL GOVERNOR ROD BLAGOJEVICH IMMEDIATELY.
PLEASE ASK HIM TO LOOK INTO THE WRONG DOING OF THE ILLINOIS DEPT. OF
AGRICULTURE, AND ASK HIM TO USE HIS AUTHORITY TO RESCIND THIS WRONGLY ISSUED
LICENSE!!!! PLEASE ASK FAMILY, FRIENDS, COWORKERS AND NEIGHBORS TO DO THE
SAME!!!!
Time is of the essence! PLEASE CONTACT HIM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND
CONTINUE DOING SO FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS!!! It does not matter if you do
not live in Illinois, we need ALL the support available.

Here is a list of facts you could mention when contacting the Governor and Dept.
of Ag.:
1. Cavel International burned to the ground in March 2002.
2. Cavel International applied for the horse slaughter license on 4/14/03 when a
facility did NOT even exist.
3. The IL Dept. of Agriculture granted the license on 4/22/03, and did not
inspect the facility as is required.
4. Cavel falsified information on the application by lying about the state of
their facility.
5. The Ag. Dept. has admitted its error, and has stated that they would look
into revoking the license.
6. The Ag. Dept. has had several weeks to correct this error, and still has not
revoked Cavel International's HORSE SLAUGHTERING LICENSE.
Also, please write your Illinois State Representatives and Senators asking them
to SUPPORT AND COSPONSOR SB 1921, a bill to ban horse slaughter in Illinois and
prevent Cavel from operating, as well as your Congressmen and the members of the
US House Agriculture Committee asking them to SUPPORT AND COSPONSOR BILL HR 857,
"The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act", a Federal Bill to ban
horse slaughter and the exportation of horses for slaughter in the US. If
you need more information about either bill, please log on to: http://www.saplonline.org/Legislation/ahpa.htm
Lastly, SHARK will be visiting Illinois' newly elected Representative, Robert
Pritchard this month, and we will need volunteers willing to hand out literature
to his constituents regarding this abomination in their community and inform
them that Pritchard supports the murdering of horses. Please contact me if
you might be able to help us this month.
Thank you very much for your dedication and action!
For the Animals,
Jodie Wiederkehr
