These statistics come from and Economic Impact of the U.S. Horse Industry study that was released in December 1996.  This study was done by an outside research firm called the Barents Group, which is a subsidary of KPMG.  These statistics were obtained through surveys.  The study comes in 4 volumes with Volume 1 being the national summary, which is information for the entire United States.  Volume 2 contains information for 11 focus states, Volumne 3 is the Technical information on how the study was done including sample surveys and Volume 4 is breakout information for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses broken down by the 11 focus states as well as nationally.  Volume 1 is available for $35.00; Volume 2 is $15.00; Volume 3 is $50.00 and Volume 4 is $50.00.  You can purchase the volumes individually or purchase the entire study for $150.  We need either a check or money order in advance or we accept VISA or Mastercard if you prefer.

Regarding the statistics your organization has displayed on the following web page:

What year were these statistics gathered and do they cover the entire United States?  Also, what is the source of the stastics.

Thank you,
