Dear Chad,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the slaughter of horses for human consumption. I appreciate hearing from you.
I share your concern about the practice of slaughtering horses for human consumption. As you know, legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Congress to prohibit this practice. H.R. 857, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, is designed to protect these animals from some of the practices you described in your message. I understand your position on this issue and please know that I will keep your views in mind should it be considered by the House.
Again, thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to call on me whenever I can be of assistance to you.
Sincerely,
Jim Turner
Member of Congress
