Subject: [againstslaughter] WLBK Radio Interview Today
Hi everyone,
Today I did a radio interview with WLBK radio in DeKalb.
The interview went really well. I was able to get lots of good info out on
the slaughter issue.
The host and I talked on air for appx. 40 minutes.
The station had Donna Ewing from HARPS on following my interview. www.harpsonline.org And I must
say, she never ceases to amaze me.
Luckily, we took notes on her comments, some of which I will share with you
now.
According to Donna, we need horse slaughter because horses will by left
starving in fields or turned loose to fend for themselves if horse owners do not
have this option.
However, she stated in the interview, that the instances of neglect have
drastically decreased over the last 3 decades, due to owner education and
awareness. She in fact stated when asked how many cases she gets reports on to
her org
per year that she only gets between 5-10 cases per year. Amazing.
She also, claims that the Thoroughbred industries reason for supporting a ban
on horse slaughter is so that they can "cover up" the amount of drugs
the
horses receive. Yes, I am certain the USDA and the horse slaughter plants are
really chomping at the bit to expose how many drugs and pesticides etc are in
the
horsemeat they are feeding to HUMAN BEINGS !!!!! Interesting.
She claims that the TB's are so broken down by the time they are 2 years old
that not too many of them ever get to race, and that TB's are NOT really good
for anything other than racing. They are too flighty to make good trail,
thereapuetic or riding animals. Really.
Hmmmm.. Wonder what all those A Circuit hunter/jumper, dressage, Olympic
Team, USET show jumping team, pony clubbers, 4-Hers, riding instructors
etc..etc.. riders/owners will say to that?
She claims that if she had a bible she would swear that she never sent a
horse to slaughter, she would never do that. So why does she encourage other
horses suffering? Good Question. One she never did answer.
She claimed that the "gun" was far more humane than the
"needle". that it
kills horses instantly. Hmmm, why then does the AVMA state that the use of
CBG
must be followed by exanguination(bleeding out)? If they are dead, why would
you need to bleed one out in your own backyard? She stated she would like to see
all vets carry one as a "backup" should the needle not work. What?
Didn't
you just say that the CBG should be the method of choice???
She claimed when asked about chemical euthanasia, that it was not humane for
horses, as they suffocate to death, fully conscious and aware, yet unable to
fight, run or get up and that they die a slow horrible death. The host then
asked her "what about euthanasia for dogs and cats, is that then inhumane
also"?
Donna's answer was laughable as was most of the interview, she said that it
was different for dogs and cats, cuz they are smaller.. 20-100lbs, and you can
cradle them in your arms, but you cant do that for a 1000 lb. horses. HUH???
Good Answer!!!
She claimed that Cavel slaughters horses humanely, because people have told
her so.
She has never actually seen it, cuz it would make her sick, but from what she
hears, only 1 out of 1000 need to be hit more than once with the CBG.
Then she went on to say that what she really likes about Cavel is that they
are willing to let the humane org go in there to "teach them how to handle
and
kill the horses more humanely". Wait, didnt you just say that they already
do
this? So does this mean you admit that for 16 years that they did not do it
humanely, but now that will change cuz your going to "teach" them??
Wait it gets better!!!!!!!
Ok so then she said that all those euthanized horses are poisoning the ground
when they are buried. The worms that eat the horses are poisoned, and the
grass that grows where the horses are buried is poisoned and no longer safe for
vegetarians to eat. Dont laugh, she said it, not me!!!!
Guess she has no problem with the hundred million or so, dogs, cats, cows,
pigs etc. that are euthanized and buried.
Then she said that the racehorses are so loaded up with drugs and chemicals
that it is sin. However, in the very same sentence, Now I kid you not, she said
horsemeat is a highly healthy protein source, it is a lean and extremly safe
food for humans, and that it is a shame to waste this "protein". HuH!!!
Now I
was really laughing so hard I thought I would die!!!!
She stated when asked how many slaughter plants there are, that there are 2
USDA plants, but that there are dozens of back yard horse slaughter houses and
pet food companies that slaughter horses. REALLY??? Well the Pet Food
Institute will be calling you MS, Ewing, this time it just may be
their attornies.
She said that once the horses were dead, they did not care how they were
"carved up" and "cut up" or for whom, they are dead what did
it matter.. Pet food,
human food, all the same to the horse.
Well, I suppose this is true, but should one not care that PEOPLE should
probably NOT eat drug laden horsemeat.???
She said that she hopes that all the horses that go to slaughter have
navicular disease, or founder or are "broken down", but she knows some
of them are
healthy and not broke down.
Good job, Donna... Yes all broke down horses should travel for days on a
double decker in excruciating agony, before they are blasted with the CBG.
God
forbid, you put them down mercifully at home. Load those poor 3 legged animals
up in that jammed packed trailer from hell. Way to go, Donna.
Well, there is one final comment at the end of her interview, she did admit
that horse slaughter should be the absolute last resort, but that people should
at least have the choice of what to do with their animals. Sorry, Donna we
disagree, no one ever, should simply because they "choose" to,
be allowed to
abuse their animals and get paid to do it!!!!
That a girl Donna, good job!!! For our side that is!!!!
