Most any documents of this nature, we already have on either Mary's site or the NHPC.

This is the Grandin report "Characterizations of horses at auctions and in the slaughter plants" link

A full accounting of these documents (reference page) is available on the power point presentation I drafted for the IL bill at http://www.horse-protection.org/info.php?id=15

The Humane Slaughter of Livestock act

Daniel,

The numbers I have seen vary.  The number I have been referencing is 82.5 % are young, in good health, and have no behavioral problems.  Less than 8% have behavioral problems according to one study and 4% according to another.  In many cases it is hard to find the original reference.

I suggest we assign one of our research gurus to document the source of each of these numbers we use, so we can be sure it is accurate.  I was saying the USDA says it is acceptable if 90% of slaughtered animals are properly stunned, but the actual number turned out to be 95%.

Then I found out that in the last year in which counts were taken (1998), only 30% of the slaughter plants achieved this number.

Can we ask for a volunteer to be the archive of source documents that we need to reference?
