Subject: [againstslaughter] Great News re: SB 1921

Hi Everyone,

I just received a fabulous New Years gift for all of us involved in the efforts to end horse slaughter in Illinois.  Prior to our fundraiser I had written letters to all 5 IL racetracks, asking for their support in the efforts to pass SB 1921.  I requested either financial assistance, or the use of their lobbyists and attorneys, to help secure passage of the bill.

Today, I received a reply from Mr. Richard L. Duchossois the Chairman of Arlington Park Racecourse.  Mr. Duchossois writes, "I received your letter concerning SB 1921 and have discussed this issue with the  other racetracks. Obviously we are in support of this bill. However, I believe that the racetracks will operate as a unit and we will have our lobbyists assist with the passage of this bill."

" We do not wish to have any Thoroughbreds slaughtered.  The story that I heard regarding the Illinois Department of Agriculture being against the bill, because this might lead to a cease in the slaughter of hogs and cattle, does not make any sense.  These are two entirely different issues and it is for this reason that we are supporting the prevention of Thoroughbred horses being slaughtered."

This is tremendous news !!! We now have the power of the lobbyists from all 5 racetracks to add to the list of all of the wonderful people working so very hard to ensure passage of this bill.  We couldn't ask for more !!

My heartfelt thanks go out to our Il racetracks for leading the way to an end of this horrible fate suffered by so many US horses.  This move by the IL tracks, sends a clear message to the horse slaughter trade, that clearly their days are numbered.

We have exposed the dirty secrets and lies of this brutal trade, and all those who support it. And the horse industry and the people of Illinois are more committed than ever to ending this nightmare once and for all in our state and in our country.

I have said this before, and I will say it once more now, Cavel... it is time to "pack your tack" and trot on back to Belgium. We will gladly escort you to the border!!!

Love and Prayers to all of you on this Happy, Happy, New Years Eve !!
